The melt pump of a plastic sheet extruder is primarily utilized for the conveying, pressurizing, and metering of various high-temperature, high-viscosity polymer melts. These materials include, but are not limited to, the following:
Plastics: such as polyethylene (PE), polypropylene (PP), polyvinyl chloride (PVC), polystyrene (PS), ABS, PET, etc.
Resins: multiple types of resin materials that typically possess high viscosity and thermoplastic properties, making them suitable for conveying and processing through melt pumps.
Rubbers: including natural rubber and synthetic rubber, which require stable melt pressure and flow rate during the extrusion process to ensure the quality and dimensional accuracy of the extruded products.
Additionally, melt pumps may also be used to convey other high-viscosity materials that do not contain particulate impurities, such as paints, adhesives, dyes, coatings, lubricants, and polyols. However, the specific application range may vary depending on the design and manufacturer of the melt pump.
In the plastic sheet extrusion process, the primary role of the melt pump is to improve the dimensional accuracy and quality stability of the extruded products, while reducing the scrap rate. It can pressurize and stabilize the high-temperature melt from the extruder and then deliver it to the extruder die at a stable flow rate, ensuring the continuity and stability of the extrusion process. Therefore, the melt pump is an indispensable component in the plastic sheet extrusion production line.
